Rae 858, Dion 859

From the Edmonton Sun today:

As of the most recent fundraising reports to Elections Canada, Rae received 858 donations totalling $992,879, for an average donation of $1,157.20.

On the other end of the spectrum, Dion's 859 donors each chipped in an average of $318.50, adding up to $273,611.

Was encouraged to read that.

The # of contributors is interesting.
Dion's strategy has been the $100 revolution.

Is the strategy going to work then? I doubt it. But the strategy works in that he didn't have the resources to play Rae's champagne game and still ended up with the same number of donors.

The key is that most people including me use the total amount as a meter for popularity. Clearly, we shouldn't.

Normally, when I see the amounts for Dion, I say 'ya well, he doesn't have the organization Rae or Iggy have'. But, here I don't even have to do that, I can say, EVEN WITHOUT the organization, Dion beats them in getting Canadians to put their money where there mouth is.

Money talks, but given the numbers, Dion's speak louder (and aren't drunk on champagne).
